Texoma Pediatric Dentistry
Sedation Dentistry for Kids in Sherman, TX
Texoma Pediatric Dentistry offers sedation dentistry for children in Sherman, TX, to help make dental visits more comfortable for kids who experience anxiety, fear, or difficulty sitting through treatment. Our pediatric dental team carefully evaluates each child’s needs and recommends appropriate comfort options to support a safe, calm experience during dental procedures while helping children receive the care they need.
01 · What It Is
Helping Children Receive the Dental Care They Need
Some children need a little extra support to comfortably and safely complete dental treatment. Sedation can be helpful for children who experience significant dental anxiety, have difficulty tolerating treatment, require longer or more complex procedures, or have special health care needs.
Dr. Jess will consider your child’s age, medical history, treatment needs, and ability to cooperate when discussing whether sedation may be appropriate.

02 · Meet the Doctor

Dr. Jess completed her pediatric dentistry residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, with clinical training at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. With deep roots in Texas, she opened Texoma Pediatric Dentistry to bring that standard of care home to Sherman.
03 · Why Choose Us for Sedation Dentistry
Helping Children Feel Calm During Dental Care
A Comfortable Approach To Pediatric Dental Treatment

Care Based On Your Child’s Needs
We consider your child’s age, health history, anxiety level, and treatment needs to determine if sedation may be appropriate.
Safe Sedation Planning
Before treatment, we review your child’s medical history, explain the process, and discuss what parents can expect during the appointment.
Comfort During Treatment
Sedation helps some children remain calm and comfortable during dental procedures, especially when treatment may be lengthy or difficult.
Support Before And After Treatment
We guide families through preparation instructions, recovery expectations, and aftercare recommendations to help make the experience smooth.
04 · What’s Included
Sedation Options
We offer several levels of sedation depending on your child’s individual needs and planned treatment.
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide, sometimes called “laughing gas,” is a mild form of sedation breathed through a small mask placed over the nose. It can help reduce anxiety and make dental treatment easier to tolerate while your child remains awake and responsive. The effects wear off quickly after treatment once the nitrous oxide is discontinued and oxygen is administered.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation uses medication given by mouth before treatment to help reduce anxiety and allow your child to relax. Your child may become drowsy or fall asleep, but is not intended to be unconscious and can still respond to stimulation. Children are monitored throughout the appointment, and specific fasting and recovery instructions will be provided beforehand.
IV Sedation
For children who require a deeper level of sedation, IV sedation may be recommended. A pediatric anesthesiologist provides and monitors the sedation while Dr. Jess focuses on completing your child’s dental treatment. This option may be appropriate for children who need extensive treatment, have significant dental anxiety, are very young, or are unable to safely tolerate treatment with other approaches.
Hospital Dentistry
For some children, completing dental treatment under general anesthesia in a hospital setting may be the most appropriate option. Your child is fully asleep while dental treatment is completed and is continuously monitored by the anesthesia team. Hospital dentistry may be considered for children with extensive treatment needs, certain medical or developmental conditions, very young children, or those who are unable to safely complete necessary treatment in the dental office.
05 · What It Is
Which Option Is Right For My Child?
Not every child who is nervous at the dentist needs sedation, and there isn't one option that's right for everyone. Dr. Jess will review your child's medical history, dental needs, age, and previous dental experiences with you before recommending the most appropriate approach.
